Culinary Programs Welcome to The Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago. Whether you are looking for a career in fashion, culinary arts, media arts, interior design or visual communications, we offer creative education in one of the world's premier cities. Our faculty provides instruction based on their expertise working in their fields. And the city of Chicago provides a unique backdrop. With two locations downtown, our college offers the opportunity not only to learn in the classroom, but also through the many events and experiences that come with immersing yourself right in the middle of downtown Chicago.

Culinary Programs Offered:

Culinary Arts*

In the Culinary Arts program, you’ll have an opportunity to gain practical experience in the kitchen while studying the business of cost control, sanitation and safety, menu and beverage management, nutrition, and kitchen management. You’ll have an opportunity to learn to produce food quickly and in quantity while working with others. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as line cook and pantry cook (garde manger).

Culinary Management*

In the Culinary Management program, you’ll have an opportunity to focus on communications, training, leadership, management, accounting, marketing, financial management, and employee relations. Graduates are prepared to seek entry-level employment such as restaurant manager or catering manager in restaurants, hospitals, cruise ships, and banquet facilities.

Professional Baking & Pastry

In the Professional Baking & Pastry program, you’ll receive hands-on baking skills with an emphasis on fundamental pastry and bread-baking techniques. Coursework focuses on basic culinary skills, sanitation, cake decorating, and chocolate among other things. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions such as line cook and pastry cook.
